Get Free AccessWe aimed to study the changes in spirometric indices and quality of life of smoker and non-smoker COPD subjects over a period of 1 year. Methods: Physician confirmed 71 NS-COPD subjects, 54 S-COPD subjects underwent pre-post bronchodilator spirometry, SGRQ and CAT questionnaires administration at baseline and after 1 year of follow up. 100 healthy individuals were followed up for one year with pre-post spirometry as control population. Results: Mean (±SD) pre-bronchodilator FEV1 (L), FVC (L) values at baseline and change after 1 year for healthy, S-COPD and NS-COPD are mentioned in Table 1. Female NS-COPD subjects tended to show worse lung function, and had significantly worse quality of life compared to male NS-COPD subjects as assessed by CAT scores. Conclusion: NS-COPD subjects had lower baseline lung function values than S-COPD. FEV1 and FVC values declined significantly in S-COPD subjects and increased in NS-COPD subjects after 1year, although both had similar decrements in quality of life.
